What Are Focus Sessions?

Focus sessions are dedicated blocks of time where you commit to working on a specific task without distractions. FocusNow helps you track these sessions automatically and provides insights into your deep work patterns.

Setting Up Your First Session

Getting started with focus sessions is straightforward:

  • Open FocusNow and navigate to the dashboard
  • Click the "Start Session" button
  • Choose your session duration (25, 50, or custom minutes)
  • Begin working — FocusNow will track your activity automatically
  • Understanding Your Focus Score

FocusNow's AI analyzes your activity during each session and assigns a focus score. This score is based on several factors:

    Application Switching

Frequent switching between applications can indicate distraction. FocusNow tracks how often you switch and factors this into your score.

    Category Consistency

If you start a session to write code but spend half of it in social media, your score will reflect this. The AI categorizes each application and checks alignment with your intended task.

    Session Completion

Completing your full planned session duration without stopping early contributes positively to your score.

    Tips for Better Focus Sessions

  • Start with shorter sessions (25 minutes) and gradually increase
  • Close unnecessary applications before starting
  • Put your phone in another room or on Do Not Disturb
  • Take breaks between sessions — your brain needs rest
  • Review your analytics weekly to spot patterns
  • Tracking Progress Over Time

The real power of focus sessions becomes apparent over time. FocusNow's analytics dashboard shows your trends across days, weeks, and months. You'll be able to see which days you're most productive, what times of day work best for deep focus, and how your habits are improving.

Consistency is more important than perfection. Even tracking a few sessions per day gives you valuable data about your work patterns.
